Quick update: we just got approval and surveys for this campaign are going out through Backerkit now! A couple of notes for everyone:

  • You don't have to open an account to complete your survey.
  • Anyone who requested ADD-ONS during the campaign, I have already manually added these items to your cart and the shipping is taken care of.
  • Those of you who wanted to add after the campaign ended, feel free to add any additional items here and everything will get packaged together.

Thanks, everyone!

Enrica J.

P.S. Know anyone who might also like to check out CROSSING? They can pre-order here: https://crossingcomic.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Blitz coming! Surveys are on the way, plus the answer to the last update question.

Hey everyone!

Holy hell, this year is flyyyying by. September 1. I'm excited to report that CROSSING is in the final turn of coloring and lettering and will be heading to the printer soon! Which means: we're prepping the surveys! I need a quick return on these from everyone who wants their name in the book--and believe me WE want your name in the book because we want to show off all 300+ names of the amazing people who supported us. Great things are in store, so please look for the survey and be sure to reply soonest!

Before I show some more pages from Alex, here's the answer to the trivia question from our last update:

Q. Tell me the significance of the tavern depicted in page 1 shown below. Hint: CROSSING is set in Baltimore.

 A. Some of you got thrown off track by the "Homicide: Life on the Street" sign in the lower panels, but the actual saloon is "The Horse You Came In On." And the significance is: The Horse You Came In On is the tavern where American writer, Edgar Allan Poe, is said to have had his very last drink on the day he died. In fact, the trash can in front of the saloon (the one our poor doomed character is puking in above) actually sits atop the very place Poe is fabled to have collapsed when he staggered out the doors of the tavern for the last time. Poe's ghost is said to haunt the tavern to this day (though it's got a country-western theme going now, so I have a hard time imagining Edgar spending a lot of time there.)

If you are familiar with my other work, the Poe ref in this new book is no surprise. Here are photos of the real deal in Fells Point in Baltimore, MD:

The "Homicide: Life on the Street" sign comics in because our character stumbles drunkenly across the street to the famed City Pier, where the TV show was filmed. The panel at the top of the page shows this:

Some people think Fells Point is too touristy, but it's still one of my favorite places in my adopted city. The City Pier has stood kind of derelict for a few years now, and will soon be redeveloped for some fancy purpose, but I'm glad to include it as it is in CROSSING before that happens.

A crucial scene, as you can see. Can't wait to show you these in color!

More updates:

  • Baltimore Comic Con begins tomorrow! If you'll be in town for the show, be sure to stop by table A124!
  • We'll also be at Small Press Expo (SPX) and Baltimore Book Festival this month! Check out RedStylo.com for a complete event schedule!

And finally... one of Red Stylo Media's superstar editors/contributors, James McGee, has a Kickstarter going on right now. Any Shakespeare fans in the house? OPHELIA'S REVENGE is an EC-style horror story. Hamlet's Ophelia is a vengeful swamp monster who returns from the dead to take out a modern-day Renaissance faire. And you can get it for just $1!

Thanks, everyone! Don't forget: when you get your survey, fill it out and kick it back to me soon as you can!

See you on the other side,

Once again, thank you all for backing us. 238% funded is an incredible level of support, and I'm excited to meet and connect with more of you in the coming months!

So here's what to expect from CROSSING:

  • Alex Cormack is at work on the remaining pages of Issue 1, and we'll have pages-in-progress and other pieces to share with you soon!
  •  Our planned release for CROSSING #1 is October this year. The team is working hard to try and have our first issue ready and shipping will commence before Halloween!
  • We are going to be working with DriveThruComics.com and Backer Kit to fulfill rewards! Expect the survey to go out in September as we prep the packages. Also, folks who've asked for add-ons after funding, etc, will have the opportunity to order when the surveys go out!

Remember, those of you heading to Comic Con in San Diego next week, please stop by Table K5 in Small Press! You can also check out other upcoming events on the RedStylo.com events calendar. The list is growing!

Can't make a show? Don't worry--we'll keep you in the mix. Also, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Drop a note, tell us you're a backer and we'll follow you, too. Don't be shy!

More soon from the CROSSING team,

How cool is this?!? A more coherant message is on the way, but right now I can only think to say

Details, some quick updates, and more exciting news on the way, but give a girl a moment to collect herself. This is truly, truly amazing,

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!
over 7 years ago – Fri, Aug 26, 2016 at 07:21:52 AM

*cue the music!*

You're welcome for that little earworm. As you can imagine, yours truly and the rest of the CROSSING team are singing it to ourselves as the hours fly away.

As of this writing we only have 10 HOURS LEFT, and less than $400 separates us from our next stretch goal!

Less than $400 away! Bump up a car or two before we reach our final destination later today!!
Less than $400 away! Bump up a car or two before we reach our final destination later today!!

As we near the end, I finally have that color page to share with you. We told you CROSSING is going to be a 6-issue mini series. This page is a great hint of what to expect from Issue #2! Tell me, do you believe in ghosts?

We're almost to the end, but as you can see---this is just the beginning!

Thank you, all, for sticking with us in the remaining hours as we count down to FUNDED. Again, please have another look at the list and see if anything can tempt you--so close to the next stretch goal, we're just dying to make it happen! And don't forget the add-ons!

And P.S. International Backers: don't fear the postage! International orders are being fulfilled by DriveThruComics.com which is how we were able to really cut down on the overseas postage for print issues. Check out the higher tiers and see if the shipping could still work--we'd love to get a print comic in your hands!

See you on the other side,

Enrica J.
